Consumer Rights Regulations 2012

Payment Surcharges

We’ve had reports of some local Trading Standards departments starting to take action to enforce these regulations which came into force on 6th April.

It is now unlawfulto seek to charge a customer more for a particular payment, than it actually costs the trader to process that payment.

In practice that means Dealers can’t charge more for taking a credit card payment, than the Credit Card company actually charges for the payment.

As such we would recommend you obtain a clear print out from your Credit Card processor showing the various charges applicable to different cards, and tailor your charges accordingly.
