Is anyone ready for the new Car Tax Rules?

As from 1st October 2014 the DVLA ‘Driver Vehicle licensing Agency will stop issuing paper tax discs.
Of course, motorists will still need to tax a vehicle to drive or keep on the road and will be warned they could be fined or receive penalty charges.
The new rules will also put the onus on car dealers to inform the DVLA when they sell a vehicle and or they could be liable for a fine of up to £1,000. This is done by completion of the V5C form and sending to the DVLA. Sellers can claim any tax due.

In fact drivers will not benefit from any months left on a tax disc. Buyers will have to buy a tax disc immediately or face being hit for driving an untaxed vehicle. All new vehicle owners should find out if the vehicle has been SORN or ‘kept off road’ before driving a new car. You can check if the car is taxed at

Lawdata suggests all our clients make use of this system as it is free or use trade plates. Of course this system or the new rules itself won’t alleviate telling the difference between a properly taxed vehicle and a disguised stolen car using a set of false plates. Police cameras will now check all cars to spot tax evaders.
It is understood that the change would save money and decrease insurance premiums albeit it will make it easier for crooks to disguising stolen vehicles which surely will increase thefts and tax evasion and premiums going up.

Car dealers should not only be fined for this type of things but also for cheating on the real status of cars when they sell them. I bought a 97 Ford Scort and the seller did not warned me about some problems the car had with windshield molding set. Obviously I did not noticed anything until a couple of days later when I could go for a ride. I had to buy the set with MY money and the seller did not get any penalty. Thanks God the set was not expensive and the quality was ok. By the way, I bought it online at
